Does Anyone Still Believe?

Churches are losing members, trust and their former place in everyday life. In eastern Germany in particular, religion is no longer part of daily experience for many people.

At the same time, churches remain spaces of political debate, social work, moral orientation and democratic responsibility.

This panel asks what churches can still offer today — and what they need to let go of. We will talk about faith and doubt, power and abuse, eastern German secularism, right-wing attempts at appropriation, and the question of whether the church can still be a place where people meet, argue and listen to one another in an increasingly polarized society.
