For the German singer-songwriter herbst, born in 2003, making music is like therapy. What matters most to him is when it can be the same for his listeners. herbst’s music is honest and relatable, characterized by an intimate vocal style and an acoustic sound. The vulnerability and intimacy of his music and lyrics create a magnetic appeal that has already captivated audiences on social media after just a few posts.
His classical piano training as a child equipped herbst with two things: musical sensitivity and the melancholy of pianists like Debussy and Chopin. As a teenager, he took up the guitar. Inspired by Billie Eilish, he began singing and writing his own songs, finding his niche in the German indie scene. However, the breadth of his sound also allows him to push the boundaries of genre. With a keen sense of drama, he incorporates acoustic and electronic elements to tell his stories beyond the lyrics.
He released his first single, “gasleuchte,” in June 2024. It reached one million streams within three months and garnered attention on the viral charts. He continues to connect with his audience through his music on TikTok, as well as through an increasing number of live performances. He is accompanied by friends he met during his studies, who play cello and electric guitar in his band.
