KOSMOS from a Different Perspective

Through the ASB Residential Center, the ASB in Chemnitz has been working for many years to ensure that people with special needs are visible in the city and actively participate in social processes. In projects such as “ANDERSDENKEN” and “GemeinsamWeiterDenken,” residents have developed guidelines for inclusive events, called for political participation, and formulated concrete ideas for greater inclusion in Chemnitz and beyond. This knowledge will now be incorporated into the KOSMOS Festival—a place where diversity is celebrated and questions about the future take center stage.

For August 29, 2026, the ASB is planning an accessible information point that offers guidance, safety, and support. There, people with special needs can receive information about accessible restrooms, wheelchair-accessible routes, and easily accessible stages. At the same time, the information point serves as a safe space for visitors who feel overwhelmed or uncertain.

In addition, the ASB aims to raise awareness among festivalgoers about inclusion, participation, and accessibility. Low-barrier, interactive activities such as speed dating or “Dialog-Pong” are designed to facilitate encounters in a playful way and open up new perspectives. A special highlight is the planned “change of perspective”: During a designated time slot, interested visitors can explore the festival grounds in a wheelchair themselves—accompanied by experienced wheelchair users. This allows them to experience accessibility firsthand.

With these initiatives, the ASB aims to help break down barriers, open up spaces, and help shape a festival where everyone truly feels welcome and safe.
