Melodia sagrada. Music, Movement and the Art of creating belonging

How do we find a form for the things we carry within us?

Nicaraguan artists Ceshia Ubau and Bismarck approach this question through very different artistic languages. Ceshia is a singer-songwriter and psychologist whose music explores emotion, healing, migration, women’s experiences and the search for belonging. Bismarck works with theatre, circus and physical performance, using movement, play and collective creation to open spaces for expression and connection.

In this conversation, they meet across music, movement and memory. Together, they explore how artistic expression can help people understand their experiences, preserve a connection to where they come from and create a sense of belonging in new places.

The conversation also looks at the social realities surrounding their work: growing up and creating in Nicaragua, living and working across borders, facing expectations and stereotypes, and finding ways to remain visible, expressive and connected.

Rather than presenting art only as a reaction to political events, the session asks a broader question: What can music, theatre and the body make possible when ordinary language is not enough?

The conversation will be followed by a live performance by Ceshia Ubau, allowing the themes of memory, identity and connection to continue through music.
