Stay Mobile

As an association, we plan to operate a booth at KOSMOS 2026 featuring a mobile ground guidance system. Anyone interested can, after a brief instruction session while wearing blindfold glasses, walk along the mobile guidance system using a white cane, accompanied by a guide. The difference between raised-dot and ribbed tiles can be felt with the white cane, and the guide will explain the meaning of the various surfaces at the same time.
In addition, we’ll have a 1:10 scale building set on site, which we can use to build scale models of ground guidance systems. The building blocks are made of wood and have a magnet attached to the underside. The blocks can be placed on a magnetic board and will not fall off. This allows us to recreate bus stops, traffic light crossings, complex guidance systems, and other situations in public spaces. Participants can then use their hands to feel the corresponding situation on the board. We use the mobile ground guidance system and the building set in combination for training purposes and public outreach.
By shifting perspectives from sighted people to those with visual impairments, participants can experience firsthand what it’s like to be blind or visually impaired. Afterward, many new insights into the requirements and significance of such ground guidance systems often emerge.
