The (vertical) city as a canvas
Panel - Kreativ-Wirtschaft
German
This talk focuses on ownership, regulation, and power over urban space. Particularly in the context of large-scale murals, the city becomes a contested space among private property owners, municipalities, artists, and the public. This also provides an opportunity to discuss the concept of the “vertical city”: walls as a new form of political infrastructure, as well as lines of conflict such as private property versus the public interest, permits versus artistic autonomy, and permanence versus temporary art.
Moderator: René Kästner (HALLENKUNST Chemnitz)
Guests: Danilo Halle (Curator, Wall&Space Halle/Saale), Video&Sckre (Linz, artist duo), Lydia Tannenhauer-Schnabl (Chemnitz Technical City Hall)
