Jan Kawelke

Jan Kawelke is a journalist and host. Together with political journalist Vassili Golod, he founded “Machiavelli” in 2018 and has since been the hip-hop half, face, and voice of the award-winning rap and politics series on WDR. He stands out in German journalism like few others for his in-depth exploration of musical content. From the very beginning of his journalistic career, he has focused on the connections between art, pop culture, and music. He was honored with the International Music Journalism Award for his first major article on rap and depression, and further awards and nominations followed, including one for the Grimme Online Award. In addition to “Machiavelli,” Kawelke hosts a show on the WDR COSMO radio station; he also hosted the ARTE cultural program “Streetphilosophy” and the ARD political documentary series “Macht auf Zeit.”
