LAG Songkultur

LAG Songkultur stands for Landesarbeitsgemeinschaft für Improvisations- und Songkultur Thüringen e.V. The purpose of LAG Songkultur is to promote art and culture, particularly popular music in Thuringia, broadly encompassing the terms rock, pop, jazz.

Songkultur describes a music culture revolving around songs and thrives on bands, their music, and their fans. It primarily refers to one thing: popular culture. In the music sector, it encompasses a variety of genres and styles—from pop and jazz to rock and metal, with all the nuances around it.

For the sake of promoting this music culture in Thuringia, an association was founded in late 2017 in Weimar, consisting of musicians, musicologists, cultural workers, music producers, and more. The association is aimed at bands, musicians, the music industry, music teachers, cultural managers, and generally interested parties.

Networks, funding, rehearsal spaces, performance opportunities, knowledge transfer: Only by joining forces can more be achieved for popular music in Thuringia! We have already successfully secured significant funding as a competence partner of the federal program PopIIGo (Culture Makes Strong) for music projects throughout Thuringia: from working with refugees, through brass camps, to youth rock and rap.

With the support of cooperation partners, a medium-term goal is to establish network points for pop music culture throughout Thuringia—some of which are already active.
