“Ponure Dni” by Jemek Jemowit—a sound performance featuring camp poems by Polish concentration camp prisoners

With his 3-track EP *Ponure Dni* (release date: November 20, 2026), artist Jemek Jemowit explores Polish history and the present through music—a thematic focus that has already characterized earlier releases such as *TEKKNO POLO* (2013), *wróg publiczny no. 1 (2016), and *Legenda Zygmunta Blask* (2021).

Jemek’s musical performance at Kosmos reworks Polish camp poetry written by Polish laborers from the Majdanek and Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camps.

Ponure Dni & Apel: Based on historical texts by anonymous authors from the camps.

Na Swojską Nutę: Based on a camp song by Zofia Karpińska (b. 1908 in Lviv; d. after 1973). The poet, who was active in the Polish resistance, was deported via Pawiak Prison to Majdanek and later to Ravensbrück. The song she wrote during her imprisonment was sung in the camp and passed down orally.

The project emerged against the backdrop of a present in which the voices of eyewitnesses are increasingly falling silent. It was inspired by Jemek Jemowit’s personal exploration of the history of his grandmother, Maria Genowefa Nowak (1927–2023), a former Nazi forced laborer.
