Reading: Ostflimmern

OSTFLIMMERN – We, the Millennials of the Reunification is a multi-voiced book of text and images about growing up in East Germany after 1989. Edited by Philipp Baumgarten and Annekathrin Kohout, the book brings together contributions from numerous authors as well as documentary photographs that explore questions of origin, identity, memory, and social change.

During the reading, Philipp Baumgarten will present selected texts and photographs from the volume and offer insights into his long-term photographic archive on East Germany, which he has been building over many years. The event combines a reading, a photo presentation, and a discussion, inviting attendees to engage in conversation about the experiences of the so-called “Wende Millennials”—a generation that came of age amid upheaval and continuity, leaving and staying, loss and new beginnings.

OSTFLIMMERN does not see itself as a definitive narrative about the East, but rather as an invitation to share one’s own experiences, memories, and perspectives.
