KOSMOS Chemnitz is a festival for democracy, a network, and a platform for confrontations and discussions. It enables an exchange between cultural creators and committed citizens on relevant topics of our society and the future of Chemnitz and Europe. Here, the democracy of tomorrow can be shaped by presenting the ideas and visions of all participants, regardless of their origin or religion. It offers a chance to stand up for cosmopolitanism, tolerance, and civil courage, and to actively participate in the further development of the city and its inhabitants.

The political changes of recent years have had a significant impact on our lives. Many people feel discouraged as a result and are no longer willing to engage in public discourse. Especially now, as populist ideas gain popularity, it is important to re-engage these individuals. We must continue to advocate for democratic values to ensure our open society endures.

The people in Chemnitz have already proven that they are capable of dealing with the changes in their city. They have mastered their city's history with creativity, improvisation, passion, imagination, and the ability to act. The most important motto in this is to overcome old habits. For example, by installing panels at bus stops, playing basketball at intersections, having bands perform in shops, and organizing readings in laundromats. The KOSMOS team provides the platform and the necessary infrastructure. But the content is created by the people of Chemnitz and all over Europe.
