GAMERAUSCH CINEGAMING: The Soundtracks of 1990s Gaming and Rave Culture
Sonderformate - Popkultur
A look back at the early 1990s, when the rave scene and a maturing gaming culture shaped each other. Together with David Zabel, we’ll first take a look—in a mix of lecture performance and Let’s Play—at the technological backdrop and the momentous split between Nintendo and Sony that decisively shaped the gaming landscape of the ’90s. We’ll then embark on a journey through the decade, guided by titles that each represent a distinct sonic signature, a manufacturer, and a musical era: from *Streets of Rage 2* (Sega, 1992)—in which the techno culture spilling over from Detroit to Japan was translated into an iconic soundtrack—to *WipeOut* (PlayStation, 1995), whose contributions from trance and drum ’n’ bass acts bridge the gap to club culture.
We’ll play selected game sequences together on the big screen and look forward to action-packed matches! A perfect start to a night of dancing.
